I'm giving you Norway again because, on re-reading the table, I see that what I interpreted as three different surveys was really one survey, with different percentages for smokers of cigarettes, cigars, etc., and for occasional and regular smokers. To avoid comparing apples and oranges, the figures below are for *all* smokers, occasional and regular, and regardless of what they smoke. ************************************************************************ France: The earliest survey is for 1953. 77% of males smoked, 35% of females. 1960: males: 73%; females 28%. 1965: males, 72%, females 33%. 1970: No survey taken. A 1968 survey showed males 72%, females 32. 1975: No survey taken. The figures for 1974 are males 59, females 28. 1980: 52 and 28. 1985: 43 and 19 [but caution: a 1983 survey showed 55 and 34.] England: 1950: 77-38 1955: 74-37 1960: 74-42 1965: 69-43 1970: 68-42 1975: 62-43 1980: 55-39 1985: 46-35 Norway: 1960: 64-27 1965: 57-26 1970: 56-37 1975: 48-39 1980: 42-39 1985: 42-39 Canada: 1965: 58-35 1970: 52-36 1975: 48-36 1981 (no survey for 1980): 44-32 1985: 36-32
