"Pretty poor. Mostly holding, and terrible editing. Stauber has one scene where she is about to inhale and the camera pans away. Penn has two short scenes mainly holding. Has a quick closeup shot of a decent exhale. Lohman has two scenes with two inhales. Cutaways before she exhales. Manning holds in one scene. Rocha has a lightup and another drag. A couple light exhales. Efremova just holds, with cutaways whenever she brings the cig up to inhale. In the additional scenes on the dvd, Penn has a lightup and a couple of weak exhales in medium shot."
"[Lohman] Yes, the editing is very frustrating. But dark side and coming of age fans should note that Lohman (looking a bit younger than her 22 years) goes from a sweet character with a soft hippie-style look early in the film to a tough hard-edged look and attitude by the end, and takes up smoking as part of her transition. She doesn't quite seem like a veteran smoker, but she does seem to try to inhale. And if you look carefully, you actually do see some wisps of smoke from the end of an exhale in a cutaway shot during the first scene in which she smokes."
