| Noce blanche (1989) | Vanessa Paradis "Just one scene, early, in a restaurant, but if you like French movie cork-tip smoking scenes, this is probably a good (but not great) one for you." "16-year-old Paradis looks seductive and experienced talking in a restaurant with the teacher she will, in fact, soon be seducing. It's a two-minute scene in which we see several close-ups of her holding and one of her inhaling. We also briefly see her put out the cigarette in a wide shot at the end of the scene, but we never see an exhale. What goes through the minds of all these directors and editors who create a beautiful scene with a beautiful young actress, clearly seeing a reason to show her smoking and presumably appreciating at least on some level how she looks as she raises the cigarette to her lips and inhales, yet nonetheless deciding, 'Oh, let's cut back to the middle-aged guy who's talking?'"
