| Naked Jane (1995) | Renee Stahl, H "she [?] smokes throughout the movie. The bathtub scene is great... a great smoking movie." "Little indie character study, Stahl plays the title character, a young aspiring writer, sweet, gentle, introverted, bit of a lost soul. Not, in other words, the kind of character who's usually a smoker in movies-- but she IS a smoker, a committed one, of full-strength Marlboro Reds no less, that she expertly fires up with a little Zippo in scene after scene after scene. Her drags are deep and copious, her exhales thick and usually beautifully lit. She lights, she holds, she drags, she exhales, she dangles as she dresses for a date, she clenches a holder in her teeth as she imagines being Joan Crawford. And it was made long enough ago that it predates the age of the smoking ban, so she's free to smoke not only in her bed, her living room, her kitchen, at her writing desk, in her bathtub, in her car, at parties, and on the street, but also in clubs, restaurants, and coffee shops. And she seldom misses a chance. And did I mention her looks? Red hair, red lipstick, immaculate make up, cheekbones of a model, quirkily beautiful but not in a way that screams 'actress.' Oh, I can't tell you how much I loved this - the character and the quality and quantity of the smoking just come together perfectly. This is one of the best smoking movies I've ever seen."
