"WOW. The film spans three decades in the life of best friends Williams and
Friel, from pre-teens in 1973 to late 30's in 2001 with stops in 1978,1982
and 1989. No shortage of great lightups, inhales, exhales, holds ---
Williams holds with her toes in two scenes! Styler holds in nearly all of
her scenes as Williams' mother and there is another young blonde who smokes
in two scenes and a Spanish actress as well. Williams changes her look
throughout the film from black bobbed punker to bleached blonde punker and
back to the short black hair. A triumph!"
"Just a quibble here -- the previous reviewer has mixed up Williams and
Friel, and all his comments actually refer to Friel's role. But Williams,
as her best friend, actually has even more scenes than Friel, and acquits
herself every bit as well. Bottom line: see it, as every significant
female actress in the film smokes in pretty much every scene."
