| Convent, The (2000) | Oakley Stevenson, Megahn Perry, Adrienne Barbeau, Joanna Canton "smokes a couple of times as do two other actresses - nothing special" "Four women smoke in this above average horror film. Dark siders may enjoy this film the most, starting with the opening scene, in which Stevenson dangles for over a minute as she enters a Catholic Church and prepares to murder a dozen priests and nuns who abused her as a child. Unfortunately, she never creates any smoke or gives any evidence of being IRL (and some of the footage may be a male stunt double). Next up, smart Goth girl Megahn Perry inhales well but we only see one mediocre exhale due to quick cutting and camera angles. Adrienne Barbeau is way over the top as a tough broad, inhaling fiercing but again the editing prevents us from seeing much in the way of exhales. Last but not least, Joanna Canton may be the favorite of those who enjoy smoking as a symbol of loss of innocence. She begins the film as a sweet young woman, evidently a non-smoker, and ends up as a vicious killer (of demons) and a chain smoker who dangles as she leaves the scene of the climactic battle and has two nice close-up exhales in the film's final scene. Check this director's future efforts - he may have the fetish."
