"Bacall expertly rolls a cigarette and lights it, exhaling initially through her mouth, then her nostrils. As the first machine-manufactured cigarettes roll off the production line, she lights up, inhales an enthusiastic double-pump, and exhales with a smile of sheer delight. She then double-pumps again, running her tongue over her lips in appreciation as she expels the smoke from her lungs. She knows her tobacco too: she asks for a cigarette, lights it from a candle, double-pumps, exhaling first from her mouth, then her nostrils, before rejecting it, with smoke still clinging to her breath, as being of poor quality. Very short scenes, but demonstrative of Bacall's personal love-affair with cigarettes. George takes three puffs on a cigar."
