"Not just Sevigny and Swank but all the women in the cast smoke throughout. Sevigny smokes with great sensuality and gusto. Swank's character is trying to pass as male, and thus uses a very male style, so you have to keep reminding yourself she's really a woman (and a very attractive one). A word of warning, though -- by the time this great film comes to its shattering conclusion, I guarantee you that you won't be thinking about the smoking."
