"Full House" (1987) | Jodie Sweetin, ND, Marla Sokoloff, Molly Morgan, ND, Marie Lynn Wise, Diana Theodore
ep. #7.5, "Fast Friends", Oct. 12, '93
"Sweetin holds, but doesn't light up. She's in a restroom, confronted by
four other, more worldly girls. The other girls all smoke, including Marla
Sokoloff, who later commented to TV Guide Magazine that she taught Jodie
Sweetin how to smoke for the episode. Sokoloff also mentioned another
young actress that she taught to smoke, but her name escapes me at this
moment."
"Sokoloff, Diana Theodore and Marie Lynn Wise all light up. Sokoloff and
Wise are seen taking drags, neither one inhaling but both quickly blowing
smoke from their mouth in a reasonable imitation of youthful smoking.
Sokoloff also dangles briefly as she is about to light Morgan's cigarette,
but the scene cuts just before Morgan gets the cigarette to her mouth.
Sweetin, as a sixth grader, only holds, tempted to smoke like Morgan, with
whom she has just made friends, but deciding to hold out. She has to
endure taunting, especially from Sokoloff, and clearly is wavering on the
issue - at one point, she pretends to smoke in front of two little kids,
taking credible-looking 'drags' from a white pen of some kind, and at
another point she calls a radio talk show to talk about her decision. But
in the end she stands her ground and keeps her friendship with Morgan, who
says she's been thinking of cutting down, anyway (and is actually never
seen smoking). In reference to another post, the other young actress
Sokoloff claimed to have taught how to smoke was probably Lacey Chabert,
with whom she was featured in a couple of smoking-related scenes of 'Party
of Five,' and who, unlike Sweetin, did smoke a little in those scenes."
