By Molly's Human *** ANNOTATED SMOKING MOVIES LIST *** Last Updated 9/02/95 This is the current list of movies which contain at least one reasonably good scene of LADIES smoking. Many, but not all have been verified. Please post additions/corrections to alt.sex.fetish.smoking with a subject containing "Smoking Movies". KEY: New Additions are preceded by an asterisk (*). The Editor's Choices are preceded by a hyphen (-), but I haven't seen them all yet :) ------------------------ We are up to 244 movies! ------------------------ - 976-EVIL (Various Artists) If you like blondes in leather jackets smoking, check this one out. Accused, The (Jodie Foster) Airplane (Julie Hagerty) A lame, but famous scene. Best part is the sound of the exhale. *Alien (Veronica Cartwright) *Aliens (Sigourney Weaver) Alien Intruder (Tracy Scoggins) *Amateur (Elina Lowenson) *Anglefist Anna Lee: Hardcase (Imogen Stubbs) And God Created Woman (Rebecca DeMornay) - Assassination Game, The (Denise Bixler) Oh Man! You gotta see this. This woman is sexy and can SMOKE! - Baby It's You (Rosanne Arquette, Tracy Pollan) Arquette looks like she's inhaling mustard gas, but when Pollan smokes, she smmmmokes! Bank Robber (Olivia D'abo) Barcelona You tell me. I can't bear to watch it since it comes from the creators of "Metropolitan" (see below). Barbarella - Basic Instinct (Sharon Stone) Sharon Stone. Need I say more? Beaches (young girl) Bedroom Eyes II (Linda Blair) Nothing special here, but I like it for some reason. Believers, The Big (Elizabeth Perkins) Perkins' character is way too uptight to be a sexy smoker, but she does a respectable job. Billy Bathgate (Nicole Kidman) Maybe its her hairdo, but these scenes don't do much for me. Many other people seem to enjoy it, however. Birds, The - Blindfold (USA TV Movie - Shannen Doherty) The producer of this film *must* have the fetish. If not, then Doherty does. See this film. Blade Runner (Sean Young) Blaze (Lolita Davidovich) - Blown Away (Nicole Eggert) This is one of the best smoking movies. Great close-ups of Eggert inhaling and exhaling. Blue Iguana, The Blues Brothers, The (Carrie Fisher) Everybody who's anybody has seen this scene. Why beat a dead horse? Bodies, Rest & Motion (Bridget Fonda, Phoebe Cates) This is not a very good film, and the few smoking scenes are edited to the point of frustration. But if you enjoy copying smoking scenes for your own collection, there's a few here you'll want to have. Body Heat (Kathleen Turner) Born Innocent (Linda Blair) Thirteen year old Blair is pissed, so she starts smoking. The scenes aren't good, but the context is great. Boxing Helena Broadway Danny Rose (Mia Farrow) Bugsy (Annette Bening) Sexy, elegant Bening puts in a fine performance. Bye Bye Baby Candyman (Virginia Madsen) Cape Fear (Juliette Lewis) One lightning fast hit on a joint by Lewis. *Casper One short scene at beginning (not verified). Cat Chaser (Kelly McGillis) Cat's Eye Chapman Report, The (Jane Fonda) Child's Play 2 (Christine Elise) Just one scene, but a good one. Blonde-haired Elise lights one up on the swingset and relaxes with a couple good puffs. The "puh" sound on one drag is a plus. Choose Me (Leslie Ann Warren) Clean and Sober (Kathy Baker) Quite a bit of smoking here, but about as attractive as at a real-life A.A. meeting. Client, The (Susan Sarandon) - Conflict of Interest (Alyssa Milano) One short scene. Milano has most of her hair chopped off, but does a fine job smoking Marlboro Lights. Corinna. Corinna (Whoopi Goldberg) Goldberg smoking Pall Malls. She does a pretty good job throughout the movie, especially in her opening scene, and smoking is a minor theme in this film. - Cross My Heart (Annette O'toole) Three one-puff scenes, which are very good, and some smoking chit chat to boot. Dance of the Damned Dancing With Danger (USA TV Movie - Cheryl Ladd) Days of Heaven Dazed and Confused Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid (Rachel Ward) One short scene where Ward imitates Eva Marie Saint's classic scene from North by Northwest. B/W. Dead Solid Perfect (Kathryn Harrold) Deadlier Than the Male (60's British Movie) *Deceptions (Nicolete Sheridan) Sheridan is an extremely attractive woman. Her character is a non-smoker who occasionally pulls out a pack of cigs and proceeds to smoke with style, then goes back to non-smoking. No explanation for the occasional cigarette is ever given. A couple very good scenes here, but the lighting is not appropriate for a smoking scene. Desperately Seeking Susan (Madonna, Rosanne Arquette) Diamond Trap, The (TV Movie - Brooke Shields, Twiggy?) Those who remember Shields' anti-smoking commercials will get a kick out of this. And now I hear she's a smoker IRL.... Who can you trust? My theory is this: Shields did the anti- smoking ads because her mom told her to (to build a good squeaky-clean image), then she did this movie trying to make smokers look stupid, but discovered she enjoyed smoking while making the film and that's why they say she's a smoker IRL now. It could happen :) - Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead (Christina Applegate) Applegate has several good scenes, especially the close-up in the car. - Down and Out in Beverly Hills Awesome close-up of Carmen the maid inhaling and exhaling. Note the way her body shifts up slightly as she drags. I wish this lady had done "Smokescreen". The second scene is from a distance. Dr. Caligari <-- [The more RECENT version] Dying Young (Julia Roberts) Echo Park (Susan Dey) Eddie and the Cruisers (Ellen Barkin) Entres Nous <-- [Foreign Film] Exorcist III, The (the nurse?) Extremities Eyes of Laura Mars, The (Faye Dunaway) Fabulous Baker Boys, The (Michelle Pfieffer) Fatal Attraction (Glen Close) No comment here because I think Glen Close is as attractive as Glenn Miller. *Favor, The (Elizabeth McGovern) Not much of anything in the way of smoking scenes here except two very brief shots of McGovern. Fearless (Isabella Rossalini) Fear Inside, The (Christine Lahti) Basic, generic smoking scenes by a very average-looking lady. Comparable to "Clean and Sober". Fighting for my Daughter (TV) The living room and bathroom scenes are all there is, but I think they are excellent. Flashdance (Jennifer Beals) Flesh and Bone (Meg Ryan) *Frankenhooker (Various Artists) Well, this movie may not really belong here since the hookers are smoking "super crack", but we all know the actresses are actually smoking cigarettes, right? Freaky Friday (remake - Shelly Long, Gabby Hoffman) Haven't seen this yet, but I hear Hoffman does a fine job. Look for it on TV each Friday the 13th - it'll show up again. Goodfellas (Lorraine Bracco) Gotham (Virginia Madsen) Madsen has two very elagent smoking scenes in this movie. Three inhales/exhales total, two of which are in the final scene of the film. Grease (Stockard Channing, Olivia Newton John) Pretty lame smoking scenes IMO. The only scene worth considering is when John trys a cig for the first time. Gremlins 2 Grifters, The (Annette Bening, Anjelica Huston) Gun in Betty Lou's Handbag, The (Penelope Ann Miller) Finally, a nice quiet librarian tries her first cigarette on film! Hairdresser's Husband, The One weird movie. A couple of fairly long smoking scenes featuring a gorgeous young woman, but if you make it to the end of this stinkburger you'll want to slit your wrists. Handmaid's Tale, The (Elizabeth McGovern) One short scene in the bathroom, and not a good one. Hand That Rocks the Cradle, The Kind of humdrum smoking scene, but if you pretend it is Rebecca DeMornay doing the smoking.... *Heart Like a Wheel (Bonnie Bedalia) Heathers (Winona Ryder) One short scene where a long-haired Ryder fires one up big time! Hell Raiser 3 (Terry Farrell, Paula Marshall) A few interesting scenes including one closeup, but nothing spectacular. Henry and June (Uma Thurman, et. al) Decent smoking scenes, I guess. Highway 61 A few decent scenes of a sorta-cute redhead smoking, although her face deflates about 15 psi as she drags. Hitcher, The (Jennifer Jason-Leigh) - Hot Spot, The (Jennifer Connelly/Virginia Madsen) Most people love watching Madsen contantly smoking in this one. I prefer to watch Connelly constantly holding a long white cig. House of Games (Lindsay Crouse) House of Dogs How to Marry a Millionaire (Lauren Bacall) *Hudsucker Proxy, The (Jennifer Jason Leigh) Hunger, The (Catherine Deneuve, Susan Sarandon) Husbands and Wives (Juliette Lewis) Hustler, The (Piper Laurie) I Love You to Death (Phoebe Cates) Real-life husband Kevin Kline offers short-haired Cates a light. Illusions (Emma Samms) Two very short scenes here, but Samms looks phenomenal. Impossible Years, The (Christina Ferrare) *Impromptu (Julie Davis) Inconvenient Woman, An (Rebecca DeMornay) DeMornay almost seems afraid of her cigarette most of the time, but she does smoke throughout the movie. Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (Alison Doody) Inner Sanctum (Tanya Roberts) Intimate Strangers (Deborah Harry) Intruders - Irreconcilable Differences (Shelly Long, Sharon Stone) Long does her usual low-impact smoking, but Stone's smoking film debut is a must-see. *Joe Versus the Volcano (Meg Ryan) Joshua's Heart (TV Movie?) I only caught the tail end of this movie, but there was a good scene of the mother lighting one up. Kalifornia King of New York La Femme Nikita <-- [Foreign Film] Lace (TV Movie - Phoebe Cates) Tough call. Cates doesn't really look like she knows what she's doing, but she is trying awfully hard. If you like Cates, you'll like this. - Lady Beware (Diane Lane) Lane likes to smoke, that's for sure. See this one. Lair of the White Worm <-- [one very short scene] Last Dance, The (young girl) Last Seduction, The (Linda Fiorentino) Less Than Zero (Jami Gertz) Not real-convincing, but any Jennifer Connelly lookalike smoking is okay by me. License to Kill (Carey Lowell) Little Darlings (Kristy McNichol) This was better when McNichol was still a fresh young talent, IMO, but that's a context problem. Decent scenes. *Little Gloria... Happy at Last Several scenes with holders. Little Sex, A Well, you want elegance, you got it here. Short scenes, but good, with good smoking dialogue to boot. Locked Up: A Mother's Rage (TV) (Jean Smart) As the stupid title implies, this is a Lifetime TV movie. Nothing special. Long Gone (Virginia Madsen) Look Who's Talking (dream sequence) Love Hurts (Zoe Wannabe) <--- [this is a movie?] Lovesick (Elizabeth McGovern) Manchurian Candidate, The Manhattan Project, The (Jill Eilkeberry, Cynthia Nixon) This movie opens with a forgetable scene of the mother lighting one up. The other scene where Nixon grabs a pack of smokes and lights one up is much better. Nixon had so much potential in this film but that's the only time she smokes. Manhunter (Kim Griest) One weird scene only. Dude offers Griest a light, but barely gets the cig burning. She looks at the smoke then takes one good drag with an excellent exahle against the backlight. Matters of the Heart (Jane Seymour) Basic, no-frills chain-smoking by Seymour. Metropolitan (Various Artists) You have to watch really close to extract the smoking scenes from his movie, but it might be worth it. The movie, however, would even make Dr. Clayton Forester puke. Midnight (Jennifer Jason Leigh) Midnight Run Miller's Crossing Night on Earth (Winona Ryder) Milineum (Cheryl Ladd) The context of the smoking scenes makes them somewhat worthwhile, but Ladd simply can't smoke. Milk Money (Melanie Griffith) Money Pit, The (Shelly Long) Just one quick scene where Long bums a light as she "starts smoking again". Moon Over Parador (Sonia Braga) Muriel's Wedding (Toni Collette, et. al) <-- Australian Film - My Wonderful Life (Carol Alt) Alt looks stylish, Alt looks run-down. Who cares? This is Carol Alt! Several excellent smoking scenes in this film. Mystery Train Mystic Pizza (Julia Roberts) Good pizza, decent smoking scene, bad movie. Watch it anyway if you like Roberts. Natural Born Killers (Juliette Lewis) Nerds of a Feather The Russian babe takes a few quick pulls from a long white cig in a long black holder. Very quick scenes, however, with no noticeable exhales. Next Man, The [aka, The Double Hit] (Cornelia Sharpe) Night and the City, The (Jessica Lange) - Night Eyes (Tanya Roberts) Roberts carries the smoking scenes quite well, but the short cameo by the bleached-blonde is outstanding. Nightman, The (TV movie - Joahnna Kerns, Jenny Robertson) Night of the Generals (1967 - cigarette holder) No Way Out (Sean Young) I think Sean Young is ugly. She can't smoke either. North by Northwest (Eva Marie Saint) The definitive "give me a light scene". You'll feel the wind when Saint blows out the match. B/W. Other People's Money (Penelope Ann Miller) These scenes aren't actually very special, but I like them a lot. I recommend taking a look at this one. Out of the Fog (1939 - Ida Lupino) Paper Moon (Tatum O'Neil) A very young Tatum O'Neil relaxes with a smoke while real-life father Ryan O'Neil is in the room. She also burns one with the young maid in the car. Very good scenes, but B/W. Picnic (Susan Strasbourg) <-- [1955 - one short scene] Point of No Return (Bridget Fonda, Olivia D'abo) This really isn't even a smoking movie, by definition, but everyone wants it included. A few quick glimpses of D'abo smoking brown cigs, and one glipse of Fonda dressed as D'abo from a great distance. Poison Ivy (Sara Gilbert) Gilbert puffs on brown cigs several times, but unconvincingly, IMO (even though she smokes IRL). Some smoking dialogue. Presidio, The (Meg Ryan) Ryan had no business smoking in this movie. Professional, The The sequel to "Paper Moon", as smoking movies go. Twelve year old girl lights up (or so I hear). *Prototype X29A *Private School Just one quick scene of a really cute young blonde lighting up in the locker room. Watch for the nice exhale against the dark background. Pump up the Volume (Various Artists) A couple decent close-ups of high-school girls smoking, but the camera cuts away too fast for my taste. Rapture, The (Mimi Rogers) A good deal of smoking by Rogers, but I'm not sure it's convincing. The film is very good, so you might as well take a look. *Raw Deal (Kathryn Harold) Reality Bites (Winona Ryder, Various Artists) I only made it through about 1/2 hour of this movie. It was that bad. Many people have mentioned good smoking scenes here, but I didn't see any. *Really Weird Tales (Jayne Eastman) Not good smoking scenes at all, but interesting to see nun smoking. Reckless (Jennifer Grey) I love this scene! First a gorgeous blonde takes a drag, then Grey saunters up, steals the smoke, and takes two rapid-fire hard drags. Reform School Girls (Various Artists) Risky Business (Rebecca DeMornay) Rita Hayworth (Lynda Carter) Romeo is Bleeding (Lena Olin) Room Upstairs, The (TV) No-frills smoking, but quite a bit of it. Runaway (Kirstie Alley) Rush (Jennifer Jason Leigh) Leigh couldn't smoke her way out of the American Cancer Society's headquarters, but at least she has long hair in this movie. Satan's Princess (Lydie Denier) Painfully bad movie. Equally bad smoking scenes. Saturday Night Fever (Donna Pescow) Scam (Lorraine Bracco) Bracco could cause some serious hemmoraging in viewers if she took smoking lessons. In this movie, however, she holds long white smokes quite often (magically switching hands with each camera angle), but can't puff for crap. - Scandal Several women puff away, but not much sexy about their style, IMO. Scarface (Michelle Pfieffer) Pfieffer is too plasticine here to be sexy, but it does look like she is smoking 500 mm cigs. - Secret of My Success, The Oh, what a close-up! On par with "Wild Orchids", but a *much* better movie. Servant, The Sex, Lies, and Videotape (Laura San Giacomo) Shame, The (Kay Lentz) [LIFETIME Movie] Shanghai Surprise (Madonna) Short Cuts (Jennifer Jason Leigh, Lily Tomlin, et. al) This 4-hour film has no meaningful purpose for existence beyond the fact that several of the ladies in the film smoke frequently. Still, for all the smoking scenes, I didn't find any of them particularly captivating. Silencer Silkwood (Meryl Streep) Basic blue-collar smoking by Streep. - Sins of Dorian Gray, The (Belinda Bauer) Bauer is not a particularly attractive smoker, but the scenes are decent and you get to see a woman wake up in bed and grab a cigarette first thing. Sins of the Night (Deborah Shelton) Sketch Artist (Drew Barrymore) Smokescreen (Kim Catrell) So much potential, so little smoking talent. This movie is a must-see, but I'm not really sure why. Smokey and the Bandit (Sally Fields) No way around it, Fields can't smoke. Still, the context makes the single smoking scene worthwhile (her character has never smoked before). Solar Crisis (Brenda Bakke) Someone Has to Shoot the Picture (Bonnie Bedalia) A good close-up of Bedalia lighting one up with a match. She's not particularly attractive, however. Sophie's Choice (Meryl Streep) Specialist, The (Sharon Stone) Sharon Stone. Need I say more? St. Elmo's Fire (Demi Moore) Demi Moore's smoking debut, before she got really annoying. Stacking (Christine Lahti) Still of the Night (Meryl Streep) - Streets (Christina Applegate) Applegate is smoking Marlboro Reds throughout. She's not trying to be sexy, but this is Christina Applegate - she can't help it! Streets of Fire (Amy Madigan) Madigan plays a tough commando-type so well that I could never find these scenes sexy. She blows a few smoke rings and puffs away on cigars throughout much of the film. Supergirl (Faye Dunaway) Sweet Liberty (Michelle Pfieffer) - TAG: The Assassination Game (Linda Hamilton) Everyone loves this scene! Taxi Driver (Jodie Foster, ?) One quick puff halfway off the screen by Foster. Another girl takes one drag from a distance. Tea for Two <-- [Foreign Film] Texas Lightning ("Marcia Brady") <-- [NEED CONFIRMATION] That Night (Juliette Lewis) Thelma and Louise (Susan Sarandon) This Boy's Life (Ellen Barkin) Nothing much to see here. Barkin lights about 20 cigs, but never seems to smoke them. A few good capture shots might be possible. Three Days of the Condor (Faye Dunaway) *Threesome (Laura Flynn Boyle) Thrill Kill Haven't seen the film, just the captured pic by Shadow Fax. Thunderball Tiger's Tale, A (Ann Margaret) One *really* quick puff in the car. I only saw the second half of this movie, however. 'Til We Meet Again (TV movie - Courtney Cox) Top Model <-- [soft porn - hard to find] Tricks of the Trade (Markie Post) Post makes a fool out of herself trying to look like a smoker, but then again this is Markie Post *smoking*! - Trouble with Angels, The (Hayley Mills) Two young lovelies smokin' in the girl's room. The unedited (i.e., not the TV version) has several scenes. True Love True Romance (Patricia Arquette) Arquette's character is sloppy, and so is her smoking, but it's worthwhile nonetheless. - Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me (Sheryl Lee) This movie looks like it was put together by a finite number of monkeys sharing a typewriter, but there's a few very good smoking scenes. - Twins (Kelly Preston) Kelly Preston can do no wrong! Twisted Obsession - Understudy: Graveyard Shift II (Wendy Gazelle) This is it! Everything you need in a smoking movie is here, except long white cigarettes. This is the best smoking movie, IMO. Under the Biltmore Clock (Sean Young - PBS movie?) Walk on the Wild Side (Jane Fonda) - When the Bough Breaks (Ally Walker) Walker chain-smokes Marlboros throughout the film and does a decent job at that. She also carries about 7 lighters in her purse! Combine the numerous smoking scenes with one helluva sexy voice and this picture becomes an editor's choice! Best scene: Walker takes three power drags in a row. White Mischief (Gretta Sacchii) White Sands ("Noreen") One very short scene of "Noreen" lighting up. I like it! Whore (Theresa Russell) Widow's Peak (Natasha Richardson) Only two decent scenes here. The first one has a bad exhale, IMO, but the second is a decent lighting up scene (bad camera angle though). - Wild Orchids Just one short scene - an *extreme* closeup of a woman lighting up a long white one. From the click of the lighter to the sound of the exhale, however, this scene makes up for an awful movie. Wild Thing Who's Harry Crumb (Annie Potts) Potts is too pissed to pull off a persuasive performance. But then again, who wouldn't want to see Annie Potts smoking? - Wild at Heart (Laura Dern) If you didn't know Dern was a nonsmoker IRL you would never guess it from this performance. Dern smokes. Dern talks about smoking. Dern smokes some more. You get the idea. Woman in Flames <-- [German film] Yellowbeard
