              •  quit - "I ask if she minds if I smoke and am shicked to discover that the 'party girl' (cue the rolling eyes), who never seems without a cigarette in every movie and interview she's ever done, has quit. 'Smoking is something you do alone,' she says, sounding slightly superior as she assuages her oral fixation by chewing on a leather string that holds the heart-shaped locket Townsend bought her for a dollar. That doesn't mean she wouldn't love to breathe in secondhand fumes, however, and Posey practically begs me to smoke so that she can experience the joys of nicotine vicariously. Later on, trying to dodge her flailing arms and Rockette kicks as she sings along to 'What's New Pussycat?' I accidentally tip over the ashtray onto the faux-antique divan I'm sitting on, spilling ashes all over its velvet cushion. 'Aaaaaaaaaah'! she screams like Fay Wray when she sees what I've done. Suddenly she becomes the maniacally dirt-hating Joan Crawford from 'Mommie Dearest', one of her favorite movies. I pray that it's the dirt she hates and not me. Springing into action, Posey shoos me away from the site of the toxic spill, rips a page out of a fashion magazine, and delicately scoops up the ashes. When she realizes athat she won't be able to completely eliminate all traces of spillage from the cushion, she awakes from her mad-housewife trance and shrugs. 'Oh, well,' she says, 'it's not my cushion'", Out, Feb. '99

              •  "[at the Apollo Theatre] Liev Schreiber and Parker Posey snuck out for a smoke during the opening of 'Harlem Song,' George C. Wolfe's celebration of the history and culture of the famed neighborhood", New York Daily News, Aug. 6, '02
              •  "Pulling out a pack of American Spirit cigarettes, she lights up, oblivious to the no-smoking sign in the Intercontinental Hotel, where she was holed up during the film festival", Globe & Mail (Canada) Nov. 29, '02
              •  "Posey winces at the question, sinking deeper into the chair in which she is lazily sprawled at San Francisco's Four Seasons. She takes a long drag on an American Spirit, exhaling a thick cloud of smoke that casts an almost palpable pall over the room", Oakland Tribune, Nov. '02
              •  "She drives with one foot out the window, the other one on the pedal and this arm out the window with a cigarette, and she's chewing gum", Sacramento Bee, Dec. 8, '02

              •  "Joey Lauren Adams on the audition for 'Dazed and Confused': A couple of people, like Parker Posey, already had their parts and were just there to read with us. I remember asking her where she was from, and she said, 'Mississippi.' I said, 'Oh, I'm from Arkansas,' and she said, 'Where's that?' and went on smoking and chomping her gum. I fell in love with her later, but I hated her then ... mostly I was in the lobby with Parker, Adam, and Rory, whom I'd started seeing, drinking beer. I'm sure the hotel hated us, because when the regular clientele came down for their continental breakfast, we'd still be there in our pajamas, smoking, drinking beer", Texas Monthly, Oct. '03

              •  quit - "What do think you have in common with Nora [her character in Broken English (2007)]? This is like the 'issues' movie of mine: the dysfunctional issues -- abandonment, feeling low self-esteem and self-worth, loneliness. This is a film about loneliness -- about the normal kind of feelings of being alone that we don't see that much in movies. She's got to drink. She's got to smoke. She has a sense of loneliness and of fear of being left alone. I was kind of amazed at how exaggerated something that had existed so long [inside me] was easy [to convey]. I think it's much harder to [do that]. I don't know what that says about me, but that was what I was kind of like going through in the movie. I could relate. I quit smoking. I felt like it was isolating me much further. I'd go outside and have a conversation with my cigarette", URChicago magazine, Feb. '07
              •  "Q: 'Was making [Broken English (2007)] a friends-and-family kind of thing?' Zoe Cassavetes: 'I didn't know Parker [Posey]. But I thought, Who's my dream cast? I always loved her work. Same with Drea [de Matteo] ... Why make a movie if you're not having fun, if you're not enjoying yourself? On the set, we were just girls, hanging out, chain-smoking", NY Metro, Jun. 25, '07
              •  quit - "I quit smoking and stopped drinking coffee", Paste magazine, Jun. '07
              •  demanded that a production assistant "smoke her cigarettes halfway down, so they'd be just how she likes them between takes", Buzz Magazine, when?
